IOC Mission

Since the Soviet invasion in 1979, the people of Afghanistan have endured lives filled with deprivation, brutality and anguish. An entire generation has lost their childhood. Over 1.5 million have lost one or both parents, and over 700,000 orphans are living in sub-poverty conditions. International Orphan Care (IOC) provides education, healthcare, nutrition and vocational training so that these children will be healthy and productive members of their community.
The mission of IOC is to provide the orphans of Afghanistan with HOPE (Help the Orphans be Productive and Educated).
IOC supports schools in Herat and Jalalabad and medical clinics in Deh Sabz and Dogh Abad.
The school in Jalalabad is known as the Mir Mohammad Youssof Vocational School and schools in Herat is named Phoenix, The Future Makers and Danesh-e Payam.

About IOC

International Orphan Care (IOC) is a non-profit, non-sectarian, non-political, humanitarian organization incorporated in the State of California and qualified as a charitable organization under Section 501(c)3 of the US Internal Revenue Code. The federal tax identification number for IOC is 33-0547951.

All contributions to IOC are tax deductible as allowable under federal law. There are many needs and many ways to donate. Please visit the "Donate" page for more information.

IOC is organized in three major functional areas:

The Executive Branch consists of the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors and the Board of Advisors.

The duties of the Board of Directors are to establish goals and policies, approve plans and budgets, review and direct the activities of the administrative staff to assure compliance with budgets, goals, policies and plans, and assist in fund raising activities.

The Executive Committee consists of the President/Chairman of the Board, the Director of Operations for Afghanistan, the Secretary and the Treasurer/Chief Financial Officer. The duties of the Executive Commmittee are to supervise, direct and control the daily operations of the organization, and to report to the Board of Directors.

The duties of the Board of Advisors is to provide their expertise and knowledge to the organization as needed and to assist in raising funds and resources to enable IOC to achieve its mission.

All members of the Board of Directors, including the members of the Executive Committee, and the members of the Board of Advisors are unpaid, volunteers.

The Administrative Branch provides direct operational support to IOC. The functions of the Administrative Branch include day-to-day operations of the organization, membership/fundraising activities, governmental liaison, general administration and accounting, and coordination of meetings, seminars and events. The Administrative Branch coordinates the USA-based headquarters with operations in Afghanistan.

The Implementation Branch is responsible for operations in Afghanistan, including educational programs, vocational training, healthcare and nutrition services, and resource management. Administrative personnel in Afghanistan are responsible for the recruitment and supervision of staff, documentation of expenses and revenues, and periodic progress and status reports on services, programs and projects. The Implementation Branch staff includes educators, physicians, nurses and administrative personnel.
